IEC 61439 Panel Type
Custom Engineered Panel
Bespoke panel assemblies for non-standard requirements — special ratings, unusual form factors, multi-function combinations.

Custom Engineered Panels are bespoke IEC 61439-compliant low-voltage switchgear assemblies engineered for applications that cannot be served by catalogue panels. They combine high-power busbar systems (SIVACON, MNS, Prisma Set) with modular devices from leading suppliers (Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, Eaton, LS Electric, Noark, Phoenix Contact) and enclosures by Rittal or similar for tailored mechanical and EMC performance. Design scope covers rated currents from a few amperes up to 6,300 A, short-circuit withstand and making capacities typically specified from 10 kA to 100 kA sym., and customized voltage levels or special earthing schemes. Typical integrated functions include MCC bays, VFD/drive cells (Siemens Sinamics, ABB ACS, Schneider Altivar), PFC banks, metering and sub-metering (Schneider ION, ABB APM), UPS and ESS interfaces, harmonic mitigation and active filtering, and bespoke control/automation panels using Phoenix Contact I/O and PLCs. Mechanical and environmental design options include IP ratings from IP20 to IP66, IK impact ratings, stainless-steel or painted steel enclosures, and marine or offshore classification (DNV/ABS) for shipboard use. Hazardous-area compliance is achieved per IEC 60079 / ATEX techniques with architectural segregation and certified Ex components. Internal separation strategies follow IEC 61439-1 forms of separation (Form 1 through Form 4a/4b/4c) to provide busbar, functional unit, cable compartment and device segregation for safety, maintainability and selective coordination. Thermal and dielectric verification follows IEC 61439-1/2/3/6 verification principles: temperature-rise calculations and tests, dielectric and impulse withstand, short-circuit verification by calculation or type test, and internal arc classification per IEC 61641 where required (typical IAC ratings to AFLR 1s at project-specific kA levels). Component selection and coordination adhere to IEC 60947 device standards (circuit-breakers, contactors, relays) and include fault-current coordination, discrimination studies, motor starting and inrush calculations, busbar sizing and derating for frequency and harmonics. Deliverables for each custom project include SLDs, GA drawings, schematic wiring diagrams, BOM, cable schedules, short-circuit and protection coordination studies, thermal reports, internal arc reports (if tested), and FAT protocols. Real-world applications span data centers (N+1 redundancy, paralleling switchgear), healthcare (continuous power and UPS integration), oil & gas (ATEX zones), water-wastewater (IP65 washdown, VFD motor control), mining (very high fault levels), renewable energy and storage (inverter combiner switchgear), and marine/offshore installations. Patrion’s engineering capability supports design verification, type testing, site commissioning and documentation packages to meet EPC, facility owner and certifying body requirements.
