Oil & Gas

Rugged IEC 61439 panel assemblies for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas installations with hazardous area and extreme environment considerations.

Oil & Gas

Design and verification follow IEC 61439-1 general rules and IEC 61439-2/3/6 applicability for power switchgear, distribution boards and assemblies for photovoltaic/inverter applications where relevant. Component selection is certified to IEC 60947 series (switchgear, circuit-breakers, contactors) while hazardous area compliance references IEC 60079 (Ex d, Ex e, Ex p, Ex n and intrinsic safety Ex i). Typical mechanical and environmental requirements include IP55 minimum for outdoor equipment, IP66/IP67 for washdown or subsea modules, and corrosion resistance to ISO 12944 C5-M; common materials are 316L stainless steel, hot-dip galvanised or marine-grade powder-coated steel. Electrical architecture addresses forms of separation per IEC 61439 (Form 1 through Form 4b); oil & gas MCCs frequently use Form 2b/3b for segregation of busbars and circuits and Form 4b for withdrawable motor starter units to permit selective maintenance without de-energising the entire bus. Busbar systems are engineered for rated currents from 1 kA up to 4–6 kA or higher (typical plant mains 400–4000 A), with short-circuit ratings commonly specified between 25 kA and 100 kA RMS symmetrical (type tested or verified by calculation per IEC 61439 Annexes). Protective coordination uses IEC 60947-2 breakers, IEC 60947-4 soft starters and IEC 61800-3 compliant VFDs with harmonic mitigation and DC-bus braking where required. Hazardous-area installations incorporate certified cable glands, Ex-rated enclosures, purge-and-pressurization or pressurised cabinet systems for sensitive electronics, and flameproof Ex d housings for switchgear. Safety and functional safety interfaces are designed to IEC 61511/IEC 61508 for Safety Instrumented Systems (ESD, SIS), including redundant power supplies, dual-bus architectures and N+1 redundancy for critical circuits. For remote operations, panels integrate SCADA/RTU, fibre communications, environmental monitoring and predictive maintenance sensors. Factory type-testing, site FATs and third-party inspections (IECEx / ATEX / DNV / Lloyds where applicable) validate temperature-rise, dielectric, IP, short-circuit withstand and dielectric tests per IEC 61439. For oil & gas projects we provide turnkey engineering integrating SIVACON/MNS/Prisma components, Rittal enclosure systems and Phoenix Contact I/O for reliable, auditable assemblies tailored to offshore, midstream and downstream lifecycle demands.
