Custom Engineered Panel for Oil & Gas
IEC 61439 custom engineered panel assemblies engineered for oil & gas applications. Rugged IEC 61439 panel assemblies for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas installations with hazardous area and extreme environment considerations.
Custom Engineered Panel for Oil & Gas applications are engineered low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies built to IEC 61439 series requirements while meeting oil & gas industry constraints such as hazardous-area certification, marine class corrosion protection, and extreme ambient conditions. Designs reference IEC 61439-1 (general rules) and IEC 61439-2 (power switchgear), and integrate complementary standards including IEC 60079 (explosive atmospheres), IEC 60947 (switchgear and controlgear), ISO 12944 (corrosion protection), and marine/flag approvals (DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s) where required. Typical platforms are comparable to modular switchgear families (Siemens SIVACON, ABB MNS, Schneider Prisma Set) but are custom-sized for project-specific busbar ampacities and short-circuit withstand. Rated currents are project-defined; common bus configurations range from 400 A to 4,000 A per busbar, with short-circuit ratings typically engineered between 25 kA to 100 kA symmetrical depending on busbar cross-section, bracing, and verification route (type testing or calculation) per IEC 61439-2 and IEC 60947-1. Forms of separation are specified Form 1 through Form 4b; in oil & gas applications Form 4b (separation of busbar, functional units and cable compartments) is frequently specified to enhance operational safety and maintainability. Hazardous-area implementation requires selection of Ex protection concepts (Ex d flameproof, Ex e increased safety, Ex p pressurization/purging, Ex ia/ib intrinsic safety for instrumentation) per IEC 60079; purge-and-pressurization units and purge-rated HMI enclosures are common for operator interfaces. Environmental hardening includes IP ratings IP20–IP66, stainless-steel 316L enclosures, C5-M high-corrosion paint systems, integrated heaters, thermostatic control, and thermal management for VFDs and transformer cooling. Functional integration ranges from simple distribution and MCC panels to complex integrated lineups combining LV distribution, motor control centers (MCC), VFD bays, PLC control panels, emergency shutdown (ESD) interfaces, and power quality/monitoring modules (harmonic filters, surge protection, metering). Protection and monitoring meet industry expectations for relay-based protection (earth-fault, overcurrent, motor protection relays) and IEC 61850-ready communication where required. Verification and factory acceptance include routine tests per IEC 61439 (temperature-rise, dielectric, continuity, mechanical operation, IP verification) and project-specific type tests such as short-circuit withstand and internal arc classification. Typical applications: offshore platforms and FPSOs, onshore compressor and pump stations, tank farms, pipeline booster stations, and refinery utility substations — wherever hazardous atmospheres, remote operation, and high availability demand engineered panels with certified Ex solutions, marine approvals, and traceable testing documentation.
