Rittal is a global leader in low-voltage enclosure systems and type-tested power distribution solutions used extensively in IEC 61439 panel assemblies. The Ri4Power type-tested busbar and distribution system is the focal product for high-current main distribution boards (MDB), power control centers (PCC) and busbar-trunking interfacing. Ri4Power is documented for design verification under IEC 61439-2 and is engineered to support rated currents up to 5,500 A with modular tap-off and branch options for MCC and PCC applications. The Ri4Power family integrates into Rittal’s VX25 and TS 8 enclosure platforms, both of which are designed to meet IEC 61439-1 mechanical and thermal requirements while offering high IP/IK protection levels for indoor industrial and plant-floor environments. For motor control centers (MCC), Ri4Power supports segregation concepts (Form 2, Form 3, Form 4a/4b internal separation) to meet fault-clearing and maintenance coordination needs. The system accepts industry-standard switching devices and protective equipment compliant with IEC 60947 (MCCBs, ACBs, contactors, motor-protective circuit breakers) and can be configured with draw-out ACB frames and fixed or withdrawable MCCB modules to simplify maintenance. Short-circuit withstand and peak let-through values are established in the Ri4Power type-test certificate; designers should reference the certificate for the certified prospective fault current (Icw/Ipk) and coordinate protective device settings per IEC 61439-2. Rittal enclosures (VX25, TS 8) also support integrated internal busbar systems such as RiLine, and internal mounting hardware that accelerates manufacture of PLC automation panels, custom-engineered switchboards, and power-control centers. Climate control is managed via Rittal TopTherm air conditioners, fan-and-filter units, heat exchangers and energy-efficient cooling options to control internal temperatures and meet derating requirements for power electronics and MCC components. For hazardous-area or outdoor installations, panels must be engineered to IEC 60079 explosion-protection standards and appropriate IP/IK profiles; Rittal offers special variants and accessories to achieve compliance where required. In multi-vendor project environments, Ri4Power and Rittal enclosures are often compared with systems such as Siemens SIVACON, ABB MNS and Schneider PrismaSet. The benefit of a type-tested Rittal solution is a documented basis for design verification under IEC 61439 series (61439-1 general rules, 61439-2 for power switchgear and controlgear assemblies) which reduces the scope of special testing for repeatable configurations. EPCs and panel builders should request the Ri4Power type-test report, short-circuit test data, assembly instructions and recommended maintenance regimes when specifying Rittal for MDBs, PCCs, MCCs, busbar-trunking systems, PLC automation panels or bespoke engineered switchgear.
