Rittal Main Distribution Board (MDB)
Rittal components integrated into IEC 61439 main distribution board (mdb) assemblies. Rittal is the industry-leading enclosure manufacturer offering the Ri4Power type-tested system within VX25 and TS 8 enclosures, plus integrated climate control solutions.

The Rittal Main Distribution Board (MDB) is a factory-engineered IEC 61439-2 compliant assembly that pairs Rittal enclosure platforms (VX25, TS 8) with the Ri4Power type-tested busbar and distribution system to deliver high‑reliability primary distribution for industrial, utility, data center and commercial applications. The Ri4Power busbar system is type-tested for temperature-rise, dielectric strength and short‑circuit withstand and is provided with finger-safe covers, phase separators and bolted busbar connections to achieve rated currents up to 5.5 kA in type-tested configurations (system designs can be verified up to 6.3 kA by calculation or project-specific testing). Typical short‑circuit withstand ratings are delivered in the 50–100 kA (1 s) range depending on busbar configuration and fault‑loop design; make and withstand capabilities conform to IEC 61439-2 and IEC 60947 requirements for switchgear. Incoming protection is normally by withdrawable or fixed Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) — compatible frames include Siemens 3WL, ABB Emax/Masterpact and Schneider Masterpact — with integrated protection, metering and optional communication (Modbus/IEC 61850 gateways). Outgoing feeders use molded case or miniature circuit breakers (MCCBs/MCBs) with adjustable trip settings and coordinated earth‑fault and residual current protection. The assembly supports Forms of Separation from Form 2b through Form 4b, utilising insulated compartmentation, busbar partitions and segregated functional units to meet selective maintenance and personnel safety strategies per IEC 61439. Rittal VX25 and TS 8 enclosures provide modular mounting, thermal management and cable entry options; TopTherm climate-control and Blue e+ refrigeration units can be integrated for forced ventilation or cooling in high‑ambient or heat‑sensitive environments. For hazardous-area projects the enclosure and internal components can be specified to meet IEC 60079 requirements (Ex e, Ex d or purge/pressurization systems) and increased IP ratings (IP31 up to IP54) for outdoor or washdown conditions. Factory testing includes type‑test report references where available, routine dielectric and continuity tests, torque checks, and optional witness or third‑party inspection. Drawings, short‑circuit calculation sheets, coordination studies and verification files are provided to support EPC and facilities engineering. The Rittal MDB combines the repeatability and mechanical robustness of VX25/TS 8 enclosures with the electrical performance of Ri4Power busbar technology and industry‑standard switchgear, enabling compact, maintainable and code‑compliant main distribution solutions for substations, process plants, renewables, hospitals, and mission‑critical facilities.
