Rittal PLC & Automation Control Panel
Rittal components integrated into IEC 61439 plc & automation control panel assemblies. Rittal is the industry-leading enclosure manufacturer offering the Ri4Power type-tested system within VX25 and TS 8 enclosures, plus integrated climate control solutions.
The Rittal PLC & Automation Control Panel is a factory-built, IEC 61439-2 compatible assembly that combines modular Rittal enclosure systems (VX25, TS 8), Ri4Power type-tested busbar technology and integrated cooling/filtration (TopTherm) to deliver compact machine controls and distributed automation panels for process plants, OEM machinery and infrastructure projects. Ri4Power provides type-tested power distribution with rated currents up to 5,500 A and configurable busbar stacks, enabling internal separation strategies from Form 2 through Form 4b to meet functional and safety segregation requirements. Enclosure options span IP31 to IP54; climate control and dust filtration keep PLCs, PACs, HMIs and Ethernet switches within manufacturer temperature allowances. The assembly philosophy aligns with IEC 61439-1/-2 verification and the low-voltage switchgear guidance in IEC 60947 series: busbar design, temperature-rise calculation, dielectric test, and short-circuit withstand are validated during design verification. Short-circuit ratings depend on conductor sizes and configuration; Ri4Power implementations commonly achieve high kA RMS withstand figures (site-specific verification required). Rittal’s RiLine and modular mounting accessories speed integration of PLC racks, distributed I/O modules, redundant 24 VDC power supplies, managed industrial Ethernet switches (VLAN support), and HMI operator stations. For projects requiring alternative approaches, Rittal-based panels are frequently compared with Siemens SIVACON, ABB MNS and Schneider Electric Prisma Set systems. Rittal’s strength is enclosure modularity and integrated climate/power distribution (VX25 + Ri4Power) enabling compact PLC-centric panels and skid-mounted automation enclosures. For hazardous-area requirements the assembly process follows IEC 60079 series guidance; explosion-protected components and certified enclosures or segregation to safe areas are applied where needed. Typical applications include machine control centers, skid-mounted PLC cabinets for oil & gas and water treatment, MCC-adjacent automation panels, and sub-distribution automation for buildings. Delivered documentation packages include component certificates (Rittal enclosure and Ri4Power product data), IEC 61439 design-verification reports, routine test records (dielectric, insulation resistance, temperature-rise), wiring diagrams and connection lists. For EPCs and panel builders, Rittal panels reduce integration risk through type-tested busbar systems and a broad accessory ecosystem that supports redundancy, diagnostic instrumentation, and ASTM/EN-compatible earthing and bonding practices.
