Legrand is a global supplier of low-voltage distribution products tailored for IEC 61439 panel assemblies, from commercial lighting boards to main distribution and power-factor-correction (PFC) plants. Its XL³ enclosure system is a modular, type-tested platform designed for distribution up to 4000 A with factory-supplied busbar kits, plug-in cutouts and options for Forms of Separation (Form 1, 2, 3, 4a and 4b as defined by IEC 61439-1/2). XL³ systems are commonly used as an alternative or complement to other type-tested switchgear platforms (for example SIVACON, MNS and Prisma Set) where compact busbar trunking and high short-circuit withstand are required. The Legrand XL³ family supports segregated busbar compartments, vertical segregation for feeders and dedicated cable ways to meet IP and accessibility requirements for panel builders and EPCs. Protection and switching products in the Legrand portfolio include the DPX3 molded-case circuit breaker range (industrial MCCB frames up to 1600 A) and DRX/DX3 family devices for downstream protection and selective coordination. DPX3 breakers are manufactured to IEC 60947-2 with thermal-magnetic and adjustable electronic trip units available; breaking capacities (Icu/Ics) vary by frame and accessory but are selected to match the panel's prospective short-circuit current and the XL³ busbar type-test report. Legrand also provides Drivia distribution enclosures, contactors and motor starters that integrate into IEC 61439 assemblies for machine-rooms, HVAC and plant distribution. Terminal management is addressed with the Viking-style terminal blocks and multi-level connector systems for meter panels, CT/VT compartments and neutral/earth distribution. These terminal solutions permit larger conductor cross-sections, clear labelling and segregation for metering panels compliant with IEC 61439-1/2 and EN 61869 metering interfaces. Where hazardous-area considerations apply, panel designers can reference IEC 60079 and select Legrand or certified third-party enclosures and components rated for Ex environments. Real-world applications include main distribution boards and busbar trunking interfaces in commercial buildings, data centres and light-industrial sites; dedicated metering and energy-monitoring panels with CT/VT compartments; PFC panels using contactor-based capacitor switching; and lighting distribution boards with selective downstream protection. When designing an IEC 61439 assembly with Legrand components, engineers should review the manufacturer’s type-test reports, component declaration of conformity, rated currents and short-circuit withstand (Icw and Ipk) so the assembled panel achieves the required Type Tests and Routine Tests per IEC 61439-1/2 and compatibility with downstream devices governed by IEC 60947 series.
