Legrand Busbar Trunking System (BTS)

Legrand components integrated into IEC 61439 busbar trunking system (bts) assemblies. Legrand provides XL³ enclosure systems, DPX3 and DRX moulded-case breakers, and Viking terminal blocks for IEC 61439 distribution and commercial panel assemblies.

Legrand Busbar Trunking System (BTS) brings modular, factory-prefabricated busbar distribution to IEC 61439-6 assemblies by combining Legrand’s XL³ enclosure system with DPX3 and DRX protection devices and modular terminal/connectivity components. Designed for 690 V AC low-voltage distribution, the platform supports rated currents from 100–6300 A in sandwich or edge-mount configurations, with busbar cross-sections and material choices sized to achieve the required thermal continuous rating (In) and short‑circuit withstand (Icw) during type testing. Typical short‑circuit withstands delivered in BTS installations range from 25 kA to over 100 kA Icw depending on busbar cross-section, jointing and the assembly type-test per IEC 61439-1/-6. Protection and switching is achieved with IEC 60947 series devices (Legrand DPX3/DRX MCCBs, breakers and contactors) and modular measuring/communication units for integration into BMS or SCADA. Mechanical and electrical interfaces are optimized for complex routing: elbows, tees and crosses provide 3-dimensional distribution, while plug‑in tap‑off units give rapid reconfiguration and selective disconnection of loads. Spring-loaded silver-plated contacts minimize contact resistance and I2R losses, improving thermal performance over extended runs. Fire-rated sections (E30–E120) and compartmental boundary crossings are available for vertical shafts and floor penetrations, enabling compliance with building fire strategies and local code. IP protection levels can be specified from IP52 for indoor climate-controlled runs up to IP68 for buried or submerged sections; material finishes, special coatings and seals enable use in humid, corrosive or external environments. Forms of separation and internal segregation (Form 1 through Form 4b implementations) are selectable at design stage to meet operational and maintenance requirements for feeder segregation, metering and earth continuity. Type testing to IEC 61439-6 validates combined busbar and enclosure performance including temperature rise, dielectric voltage withstand, short-circuit making and conditional tests. For hazardous-area projects Legrand BTS components can be coordinated with IEC 60079-rated devices and sealing systems to maintain zone integrity. Compared to centralized assemblies such as Siemens SIVACON, Schneider Electric MNS or Prisma Set, Legrand XL³ BTS emphasizes linear, modular distribution with high tap‑off density and on‑line reconfigurability without interrupting the main bus. Typical applications include data centers, large commercial buildings, hospitals, prefabricated substations, manufacturing plants and temporary power infrastructures. For EPC contractors and panel builders, Legrand BTS simplifies factory acceptance testing and site installation while offering documented type‑tested performance under IEC 61439 series and component compliance to IEC 60947 and related standards.
