Legrand Lighting Distribution Board

Legrand components integrated into IEC 61439 lighting distribution board assemblies. Legrand provides XL³ enclosure systems, DPX3 and DRX moulded-case breakers, and Viking terminal blocks for IEC 61439 distribution and commercial panel assemblies.

The Legrand Lighting Distribution Board is an IEC 61439-3 type-tested distribution assembly purpose-built for commercial and institutional lighting systems. It combines Legrand’s XL³ enclosure platform with DPX3 and DRX moulded-case breakers, Legrand RCBO/MCB ranges, Viking-style terminal block layouts, and modular integration for DALI/KNX control and Type 2 surge protection. The XL³ system provides modular enclosure frames and busbar kits with proven short-circuit withstand capability (busbar ratings up to 4000 A in distribution lines) while allowing compact lighting boards rated up to 400 A per incoming as commonly delivered in final distribution applications. Assemblies can be executed to Forms of Separation from Form 1 through Form 4b/4c to segregate emergency, egress, and general lighting circuits as required by project design and emergency safety codes. Protection selection follows IEC 60947 series device rules and IEC 61439 verification: DPX3/DRX MCCBs deliver high breaking capacities (typical application ranges 10–65 kA Icu depending on frame and trip unit), while Legrand MCBs and RCBOs allow per-outgoing overcurrent and earth-fault protection to 63 A or higher. RCBOs enable selective protection of individual lighting circuits and are commonly used for emergency lighting circuits with separate discrimination settings or upstream selective devices. Surge protection is implemented to IEC 61643-11 Type 2 SPD modules mounted on dedicated DIN rails or in the XL³ SPD compartment. For hazardous-area or Ex-rated lighting panels, design follows IEC 60079 selection rules and can incorporate suitably certified devices and gland plates. Mechanical and verification considerations are per IEC 61439-1/-2/-3: temperature-rise verification, dielectric properties, mechanical strength, IP ratings (typical IP31–IP42 for indoor lighting boards), and short-circuit withstand verification via calculation or type test. Where project requirements call for higher-level distribution comparisons, Legrand XL³ solutions are analogous to Siemens SIVACON, Schneider MNS and ABB Prisma Set for busbar modularity and rated short-circuit performance; selection is driven by required Ipk/Icw, selective coordination and layout constraints. Typical lighting board configurations provide 12–72 outgoing ways, dedicated segregation for emergency lighting, and interface space for DALI gateways, KNX actuators or BACnet gateways inside the assembly. Application examples include commercial office floor lighting with central DALI control and monitored emergency circuits, retail lighting with coordinated Type 2+3 SPD protection and coordinated upstream DPX3 protection, and mixed-use buildings where separation of tenant and common-area lighting is required. Legrand assemblies are supplied with documentation for IEC 61439 verification, breaker certificates per IEC 60947-2, and SPD type-approval per IEC 61643-11. For turnkey lighting distribution panels in compliance-driven projects, Legrand-based IEC 61439 lighting boards offer compact footprint, standardized parts, and clear upgrade paths to larger distribution families such as XL³ 4000A busbar kits or integration into Prisma/SIVACON-style main distribution systems.
