IEC 61439 Panels

Siemens Metering & Monitoring Panel

Siemens components integrated into IEC 61439 metering & monitoring panel assemblies. Siemens offers a complete IEC 61439 type-tested panel ecosystem including the SIVACON S8 switchboard system, 3VA/3WA circuit breakers, SIRIUS contactors, and SENTRON measuring devices.

The Siemens Metering & Monitoring Panel is a purpose-built IEC 61439-2 metering assembly that pairs revenue-grade measurement hardware with Siemens low-voltage switchgear to deliver accurate energy accounting, power quality analysis, and system-level visibility for industrial, utility and commercial installations. Typical Siemens component families used in these assemblies include SIVACON S8 type-tested switchboard modules (busbar systems and cubicles), 3VA/3WL circuit breakers for overload and short-circuit protection, SIRIUS contactors and soft-starter interfaces for motor/load control, and SENTRON/SENTRON PAC multi-function meters (for example PAC3200/PAC4200) for PQ monitoring and AMR gateway functionality. Revenue-grade meters are available to IEC 62053-22 Class 0.5S (or 1.0) and CT-operated configurations support primary currents well beyond the panel’s stated InA through appropriate CT ratios and summation CT arrangements. Designed and manufactured to IEC 61439-1 and -2 requirements, the panels are supplied with type-test or design-verification evidence (routine and type tests), assembly drawings, rated short-time withstand and peak withstand values, and IP ratings (typical IP31–IP42 for indoor metering enclosures). Form-of-separation options (Form 1, 2, 3a/3b and 4a/4b/4c) can be specified to segregate busbars, power circuits, and instrumentation/relay sections to satisfy operational and maintenance procedures and to reduce fault propagation. Rated currents for metering and feeder assemblies range up to 2500 A in common configurations; SIVACON S8 provides a broader platform capable of main bus systems up to 7400 A where higher capacity or upstream type-testing is required. Short-circuit ratings depend on breaker selection and busbar sizing; typical factory assemblies achieve prospective short-circuit currents from 25 kA up to 100 kA (1 s/peak values per IEC 61439 documentation) when configured with 3VA/3WL breakers and appropriately rated busbars. Communications are factory-integrated via Modbus RTU/TCP, M‑Bus and Ethernet; optional gateways for IEC 61850 or OEM SCADA protocols are routinely offered for substation and data-center integration. SENTRON PAC meters include onboard PQ logging, waveform capture and alarm thresholds for harmonic mitigation and capacitor bank control. Real-world applications include tenant submetering and revenue metering in commercial real estate, grid-interfaced metering in power plants and renewable farms, distribution metering for large industrial plants, and critical power monitoring for data centers. For hazardous areas, metering circuitry and enclosures can be coordinated with IEC 60079 requirements and Ex-certified sensors where applicable. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), site Testing & Commissioning, and full IEC 61439 documentation packages are supplied to support compliance and rapid on-site integration.
