The ABB Metering & Monitoring Panel is a modular IEC 61439-compliant assembly built around ABB low-voltage switchgear and metering families to deliver revenue-grade measurement, power-quality analysis, and enterprise communications in one enclosure. Typical ABB fielded options include MNS type-tested MCC/PCC sections for withdrawable or fixed functional units, ArTu/ArTu4 distribution boards for compact distribution, Tmax XT molded-case breakers or Ekip-equipped breakers for selective protection, and AF series contactors for motor/control integration. Revenue-grade meters (ABB CMS family and equivalents) with Class 0.5S accuracy, CT-operated measurement for circuits above direct-metering thresholds, and multi-function meters with harmonic and PQ logging (IEC 61000-4-30 compliant measurement) are standard. Panels are engineered to IEC 61439-1/2 design verification: busbar ratings and temperature rise verified, short-circuit withstand and making capacity established, clearances and creepage checked, and internal separation implemented up to Form 4b. Typical rated currents scale to 2500 A per spec and short-circuit ratings are engineered per project up to the assembly and component limits (common field configurations achieve 50 kA–100 kA Icw depending on busbar and breaker selection such as Tmax XT). Enclosure ingress protection is provided from IP31 to IP42 with optional higher IP or painted/galvanized finishes for harsher environments; hazardous-area designs reference IEC 60079 for Ex-rated components when required. Communications and automation use Modbus RTU/TCP, M‑Bus, and Ethernet gateways for AMR/EMS integration; panels can also be provisioned with IEC 61850 gateways or SNMP/REST for building/DCIM connectivity. Scalable metering capacity supports hundreds of meters (customer configurations up to 100+ meters in multiplexed racks) and centralized data aggregation via Relion/ABB control gateways. Design choices — e.g., busbar cross-sections, CT secondary burdens and shorting, breaker frame selection (Tmax XT), and relay protection (RELIOn/Ekip family) — are selected to meet IEC 61439 verification outputs, IEC 60947 component compliance, and any site-specific requirements (metering class, IAC, or ATEX/IEC 60079).
