Schneider Electric Busbar Trunking System (BTS)
Schneider Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 busbar trunking system (bts) assemblies. Schneider Electric provides the Prisma Set type-tested switchboard system, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX breakers, TeSys contactors, and Linergy busbar systems for IEC 61439 panels.
The Schneider Electric Busbar Trunking System (BTS) is a factory-prefabricated busway solution engineered for IEC 61439-6 switchgear assemblies and high-density power distribution applications. It couples Schneider’s Linergy busbar conductors and plug-in tap-off technology with their circuit protection and control families — Prisma Set type-tested switchboard modules, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX circuit-breakers, and TeSys contactors — to deliver rated currents from 100 A up to 6,300 A in sandwich or edge-mount configurations. Prisma Set provides design-verified, type-tested assemblies up to 4,000 A and supports internal separation Forms 1 through 4b, enabling segregation of busbar, power cable, and functional units per IEC 61439-1/-2 and IEC 61439-6. Mechanical and electrical design features include plug-in tap-off units for rapid reconfiguration, modular elbows/tees/crosses for complex routing, and spring-loaded silver-plated contact systems for low contact resistance and high cycle life. Fire-rated compartment options (E30–E120) and ingress protection ranges from IP52 to IP68 are available to meet building fire-stopping and outdoor/submersible requirements. Short-circuit withstand capabilities depend on configuration and type-test results but are commonly engineered to withstand peak prospective currents up to 100 kA (Ipk) and short-time withstand (Icw) ratings consistent with IEC 61439-6 and IEC 60947 series product tests; the final rating is determined by conductor cross-section, enclosure strength, and bolted joint integrity. Electrical integration with Schneider protection devices follows IEC 60947-2 for circuit-breakers (Masterpact MTZ, Compact NSX), IEC 60947-4-1 for contactors (TeSys), and incorporates segregation and clearances to meet Forms of Separation required by the standard. For hazardous-area projects, BTS enclosures and tap-off modules can be specified with Ex-compliant barriers and enclosures per IEC 60079 series. Typical use cases include data centers (high current spine distribution), industrial plants and process facilities (main incoming and distribution feeders), airports and malls (zoned distribution with plug-in maintenance), and shipboard or offshore units requiring compact, fire-rated trunking. Factory testing follows IEC 61439-6 functional and verification tests: dielectric, temperature-rise, short-circuit (as-built), IP and degree of protection verification, and mechanical endurance of tap-offs. When integrating Schneider products into BTS assemblies, Patrion’s engineering ensures coordination studies, mechanical routing (elbows/tees), tap-off selection, and ensuring final type-test or routine-test evidence aligns with the client’s supply or plant specifications. The result is a flexible, type-verified busbar trunking platform optimized for rapid installation, high uptime, and full compatibility with Schneider Electric switchgear and protection families.
