Schneider Electric Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Panel
Schneider Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 variable frequency drive (vfd) panel assemblies. Schneider Electric provides the Prisma Set type-tested switchboard system, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX breakers, TeSys contactors, and Linergy busbar systems for IEC 61439 panels.
The Schneider Electric Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Panel is an IEC 61439-2 compliant VFD assembly engineered for low-voltage motor control applications from 0.75–1000 kW and 380–690 V AC supplies. It combines Schneider Electric Altivar family drives, Prisma Set type‑tested switchboard architecture, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX circuit‑protection devices, TeSys contactors and motor-protection modules, and Linergy busbar distribution into a factory-engineered moduleized VFD solution. Prisma Set provides a type-tested backbone for assemblies up to 4000 A with Forms of Separation 1 through 4b and IP ratings to IP55; this reduces design verification time under IEC 61439-1/-2 and eases routine routine routine type‑test application for short-circuit withstand. Drive-side design options include multi‑pulse (6/12/18 pulse) front ends and active front‑end (AFE) rectifiers for harmonic mitigation to meet network distortion limits, plus integrated EMC filters rated C1/C2 (and C3 where required) to control emissions per IEC 61800 and IEC 61000 series guidance. Motor output protection uses dU/dt filters or sinusoidal output filters to limit high dv/dt stress on motor cables and bearings; line reactors and output reactors are selectable for reduced inrush and improved drive stability. A dedicated Safe Torque Off (STO) implementation compliant with IEC 61800-5-2 is provided for functional safety requirements (SIL/PL design integration), allowing straightforward integration into safety circuits and lockout/tagout procedures. Switchgear selection is centered on Schneider Electric product families: Masterpact MTZ ACBs for high‑energy distribution and fault interruption, Compact NSX MCCBs for feeder protection, and TeSys contactors/overload relays for motor switching. Linergy busbar and Prisma Set compartments are engineered for secure mechanical segregation and conductor routing, supporting type-tested internal separation and short-circuit ratings commonly specified up to the 50–65 kA symmetrical range depending on configuration and local verification. All low‑voltage switchgear conforms to IEC 60947 series requirements for switchgear and controlgear, while hazardous-area adaptations can be designed to IEC 60079 standards where Ex-rated enclosures or purge systems are required. Typical applications include HVAC central plant, large pump stations, mine hoisting and grinding circuits, marine propulsion and thruster control, conveyor drives, and process industry compressors. Panels are configurable with manual or automatic bypass (static bypass or maintenance bypass) and optional remote monitoring via Modbus, Ethernet/IP or EcoStruxure-enabled supervisory integration for predictive maintenance. For EPC contractors and facility managers, the Schneider Electric VFD Panel offers a pre‑engineered, type‑tested route to IEC 61439 compliance with a components portfolio that simplifies procurement and on-site commissioning.
