ABB Power Control Center (PCC)
ABB components integrated into IEC 61439 power control center (pcc) assemblies. ABB delivers globally dominant IEC 61439 solutions including the MNS type-tested MCC/PCC system, ArTu distribution boards, Tmax XT breakers, and AF contactor series.

The ABB Power Control Center (PCC) is a factory-engineered IEC 61439-2 power distribution assembly that combines ABB's proven low-voltage switchgear portfolio—MNS type-tested MCC, ArTu distribution boards, Tmax XT molded-case and air circuit breakers, AF contactors and ABB Ekip power-management devices—into a scalable PCC architecture for heavy industrial and commercial installations. Typical ABB PCCs are designed for rated currents up to 6,300 A and short-time withstand ratings in the 65–120 kA @ 1 s range, with nominal voltages up to 690 V AC. Assemblies are verified per IEC 61439-1 (general requirements) and IEC 61439-2 (power switchgear and controlgear assemblies) and incorporate IEC 60947-compliant switching devices; Ex-rated selectors and components can be specified to meet IEC 60079 when required for hazardous areas. Form of separation options from Form 3b through Form 4b are available: Form 3b delivers segregation of busbar, functional units and outgoing circuits while Form 4b provides full segregation with withdrawable units for safe live-front replacement and fastest maintenance turnaround. Enclosure protection choices (IP31 to IP54) support indoor plant rooms, covered substations and partially exposed environments. The high-capacity copper or aluminium busbar systems are dimensioned for full transformer output and coordinated with Tmax XT breakers and selective protection to maintain discrimination from transformer LV output down to final circuits. Type-tested MNS MCC functional units enable withdrawable motor control and feeder bays with mechanical interlocks, racking and touch-safe finger protection. Power quality and energy management are integrated using ABB Ekip-enabled meters, power quality analyzers and SCADA-ready communications (Modbus TCP, IEC 61850 gateway options), enabling harmonic analysis, demand management and event logging for arc-flash and fault investigation. Short-circuit withstand, temperature-rise, and dielectric verification are carried out in accordance with IEC 61439-1 test regimes; type-tested assemblies like MNS carry documented short-circuit and peak-withstand ratings to simplify site acceptance. For comparative context, ABB PCCs are a market alternative to other modular systems such as Siemens SIVACON or Eaton Prisma Set, but are distinguished by the MNS type-tested MCC lineage, integrated power monitoring and a broad IEC 60947 compliant protection device range. Typical applications include data centers, petrochemical plants, mining operations, marine and offshore platforms, district energy and large tertiary buildings where high reliability, selective coordination and maintainability are mandated.
