Eaton PLC & Automation Control Panel

Eaton components integrated into IEC 61439 plc & automation control panel assemblies. Eaton provides the xEnergy type-tested switchboard system, NZM/NZMN moulded-case breakers, DIL contactors, and PKZ motor protection devices for IEC 61439 assemblies.

The Eaton PLC & Automation Control Panel is an IEC 61439-series compliant assembly engineered for machine control, process automation, water/wastewater, HVAC, EV-charging infrastructure and light industrial switchgear. It integrates Eaton power-distribution and protective-device families — notably the xEnergy type-tested switchboard platform, NZM/NZMN moulded-case circuit breakers, PKZ thermal-magnetic motor-protective switches, and Eaton DIL-style contactors — with PLC/PAC controllers, distributed I/O and industrial Ethernet infrastructure. The xEnergy busbar and enclosure platform provides design-verified power distribution up to 6300 A per bus, with frame-dependent short-circuit withstand and breaking capacities (typical Icu values up to 50–100 kA at 400/415 V depending on configuration and trip units). NZM/NZMN MCCBs cover a broad frame range (~16 A to 1600 A) and are used where selectable trip characteristics and electronic trip units are required for fault/earth-fault protection and communication (Modbus, Ethernet modules). PKZ devices provide compact motor protection and short-circuit breaking for motor feeders in modular control sections. Electrical and mechanical design follows IEC 61439-1 (general rules) and IEC 61439-2 (power switchgear assemblies) with options to meet IEC 61439-3/-6 where applicable (distribution boards and assemblies for construction sites). Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear elements conform to IEC 60947 series; hazardous-area variants can be designed to IEC 60079 for Ex-rated I/O or motor starters. Panels are typically delivered with documented forms of separation per IEC 61439 definitions — Form 1 through Form 4b — with Form 4b or 3b recommended where segregation of busbars, control wiring and functional units is required for maintainability and safety in PLC/automation systems. Control side architecture supports PLC/PAC redundancy (hot standby, dual CPU racks), 24 VDC redundant power supplies, and distributed I/O expansion scaling from 16 to 10,000+ I/O points. Communications include PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and fieldbus gateways; managed industrial Ethernet switches with VLANs, QoS and MRP ring support are integrated for deterministic traffic and cyber-segmentation. Local HMI touch panels are provided for operator interaction and alarm annunciation. Assembly examples reference complementary type-tested systems from other vendors (Siemens SIVACON S4, ABB MNS, Schneider Prisma SeT) for customers comparing busbar capacity, short-circuit performance and enclosure footprints. Eaton-based PLC & Automation panels emphasize coordinated selective protection, cable and busbar sizing to achieve the declared rated currents and short-circuit withstands, full routine and type tests per IEC 61439-1/2, and delivery documentation (SCD, TTA reports) for EPC and facility asset handover. For Ex and marine applications, designs can be adapted to IEC 60079 and relevant classification society rules.
