IEC 61439 Panels

Schneider Electric Motor Control Center (MCC)

Schneider Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 motor control center (mcc) assemblies. Schneider Electric provides the Prisma Set type-tested switchboard system, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX breakers, TeSys contactors, and Linergy busbar systems for IEC 61439 panels.

Schneider Electric Motor Control Center (MCC)

The Schneider Electric Motor Control Center (MCC) is an IEC 61439-compliant motor distribution and control solution that integrates Schneider product families—Prisma Set type‑tested switchboard platform, Masterpact MTZ air circuit breakers, Compact NSX MCCBs, TeSys contactors and starters, Altistart soft starters, Altivar VFDs and the Linergy insulated busbar system—into standardized withdrawable or fixed functional units. Engineered to IEC 61439-1 and IEC 61439-2 verification and type-test regimes, Schneider MCC assemblies are commonly specified for rated currents from distribution-grade feeders up to 6,300 A and short‑circuit withstands in the 50–100 kA / 1 s range, depending on upstream ACB/MCCB selection and busbar design. Prisma Set provides a type‑tested backbone with design verification up to 4,000 A for many configurations and supports internal separation Forms 3b through 4b as required for motor segregation and maintenance safety. Functional unit architecture supports withdrawable and plug‑in lineups for fast maintenance and hot‑swap replacement of starters and protection devices. Typical motor circuit options include direct‑on‑line, star‑delta, soft‑starter (Altistart) and VFD (Altivar) integration; TeSys contactors and Schneider motor protection relays (with Modbus/Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP communications) deliver selectable protections and remote telemetry. The Linergy busbar family provides compact, insulated copper conductors with mechanical supports and short‑time withstand ratings sized per IEC 61439-1 thermal and electrodynamic requirements. For hazardous environments, Ex-rated components and layouts compliant with IEC 60079 can be specified. Designing an MCC to meet IEC 61439 requires coordinated component certificates (IEC 60947 series for circuit-breakers, contactors and switches), temperature-rise calculations, dielectric tests, short‑time withstand and peak withstand verifications, IP ingress ratings (IP31–IP54 typical, IP55 available with additional sealing), and routine testing of functional units. Schneider families like Masterpact MTZ are used as upstream protection and short‑circuit breaking devices (suitable up to several kA breaking capacities) while Compact NSX and TeSys offer feeder and motor-level protection down to the individual starter. Compared to alternative platforms such as Siemens SIVACON or ABB MNS, Prisma Set emphasizes a type‑tested modular architecture optimized for IEC 61439 verification, rapid unit interchangeability and integrated busbar solutions. Real‑world applications include process plants, mining and metals, water/wastewater pumping stations, HVAC central plants and petrochemical motor galleries where centralized, maintainable and communicative motor control is required. Patrion’s engineering services can adapt Schneider Electric MCC configurations to meet plant short‑circuit duty, fault‑level coordination, communications and hazardous‑area requirements.
