LS Electric Motor Control Center (MCC)
LS Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 motor control center (mcc) assemblies. LS Electric provides Susol and Metasol moulded-case breakers, MC contactor series, and iS7 variable frequency drives as cost-effective components for IEC 61439 panels.
The LS Electric Motor Control Center (MCC) is an IEC 61439-2 compliant motor control solution that integrates LS Electric product families — Susol and Metasol moulded-case circuit breakers (MCCBs), MC series contactors, and iS7 variable frequency drives (VFDs) — into standardized withdrawable or fixed functional units for medium- and large-scale motor installations. Designed for rated system voltages up to 690 V AC and bus ratings up to 6 300 A, these MCC assemblies are engineered and type-tested to the requirements of IEC 61439-1 and -2 (assembly construction, temperature rise, dielectric properties, and short-time withstand), with component coordination to IEC 60947 series (circuit-breakers, contactors, motor-protective devices). Typical short-circuit withstand ratings are in the 50–100 kA 1 s range, achieved by coordinating Susol/Metasol MCCBs (16 A–2 500 A native device ranges) with engineered busbar cross-sections and mechanical supports; higher bus ratings are obtained by parallel devices and bespoke busbar designs to meet project-specific Icw needs. LS Electric withdrawable functional units use standardised widths and depths so that direct-on-line (DOL), star-delta, soft-starter, and VFD starter units can be rapidly exchanged during maintenance. Form of separation options from Form 3b through 4b are provided to segregate busbars, power circuits, and control wiring in accordance with IEC 61439 guidance on internal separation and accessibility. For motor protection, LS Electric MCCs accommodate integrated electronic motor protection relays, thermal and electronic overloads, and remote monitoring modules offering Modbus/RTU and Ethernet-based protocol options (Modbus TCP / EtherNet/IP / Profinet options available), enabling predictive maintenance and integration with SCADA or PLC systems. The iS7 VFD family is used for variable-speed motor control, offering sensorless/vector control, built-in EMC filtering options, regenerative and braking modules where required, and digital communications for seamless integration into the MCC control architecture. For harsh or hazardous installations, MCC designs can be specified to IEC 60079 for explosion-protected zones (with Ex-rated starters/encapsulation) and to IP ratings from IP31 to IP54 for indoor and semi-protected outdoor environments. Applications include water/wastewater pumping stations, HVAC central plants, conveyors and material handling, mining and minerals processing, and petrochemical motor trains. Patrion’s engineering practice configures LS Electric MCC components into IEC 61439 assemblies with documented type test evidence, short-circuit calculation packages, selective coordination studies, and factory acceptance testing procedures. Optional features include centralised control cubicles, common DC bus arrangements for energy optimisation, harmonic mitigation equipment (passive/active filters), and integrated motor management systems to meet demanding industrial and infrastructure project specifications.
