LS Electric Lighting Distribution Board

LS Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 lighting distribution board assemblies. LS Electric provides Susol and Metasol moulded-case breakers, MC contactor series, and iS7 variable frequency drives as cost-effective components for IEC 61439 panels.

The LS Electric Lighting Distribution Board is an IEC 61439-3 compliant lighting distribution assembly built around LS Electric’s Susol and Metasol circuit-breaker families, MC contactors and the iS7 variable-frequency drive (VFD) series. Designed for commercial, institutional and light-industrial distribution of final lighting circuits, these boards are engineered to deliver up to 400 A main bus ratings with modular outgoing arrangements of 12–72 ways, and IP31–IP42 enclosure options for internal plantrooms and service cupboards. Components conform to the relevant component standards (MCCBs/MCBs to IEC 60947-2 and IEC 60898-1 respectively; RCBOs/RCCBs to IEC 61009/IEC 61008; SPDs to IEC 61643-11; contactors to IEC 60947-4-1) and are factory-integrated to meet IEC 61439-1 general rules and IEC 61439-3 requirements for distribution boards. Typical assemblies use Susol and Metasol MCCB frames for upstream protection and selective discrimination; Metasol/Susol ranges cover low-frame MCBs to MCCBs (16 A–2500 A when extended across LS product lines) with breaking capacities and short-time withstand coordinated to achieve assembly Icw ratings from 10 kA up to 65 kA (1 s) depending on busbar design and protective device selection. Lighting final circuits are normally protected with Type B/C MCBs and RCBOs for earth-fault protection, and segregation for emergency lighting is implemented per IEC 61439 forms of separation (commonly Form 3b or Form 4b) to provide independent busbar or compartment isolation and ensure a dedicated emergency feed. Control and automation options include DALI (IEC 62386) and KNX integration for luminaire-level control, as well as motorised switching with LS MC contactors for centralised lighting loads. The iS7 VFD provides sensorless/vector control and IEC 61800-3 compliant EMC behaviour for dimming and selective motorised loads. Surge protection is provided using Type 2 SPDs to IEC 61643-11 at sub-distribution points; coordination with upstream protection is provided to maintain selective protection and minimize key circuit disruption. Mechanical and electrical design choices—tinned copper busbars, phase-segregated barrier systems, dedicated neutral and PE rails, RCD discrimination, and busbar jointing techniques—are implemented to achieve specified short-circuit withstand and temperature rise limits per IEC 61439 verification tests. For hazardous-area applications consult IEC 60079; Ex-rated enclosures and certified Ex components must be used. For clients evaluating platforms, LS Electric-based lighting boards offer a cost-optimised alternative to Siemens SIVACON, ABB MNS or Schneider Prisma Set assemblies while maintaining IEC 61439 compliance and modularity appropriate for projects from office fitouts to hospital emergency lighting systems.
