Eaton Lighting Distribution Board
Eaton components integrated into IEC 61439 lighting distribution board assemblies. Eaton provides the xEnergy type-tested switchboard system, NZM/NZMN moulded-case breakers, DIL contactors, and PKZ motor protection devices for IEC 61439 assemblies.
The Eaton Lighting Distribution Board combines Eaton’s IEC-certified modular components into purpose-built IEC 61439-3 lighting distribution board assemblies for commercial, retail, hospitality, healthcare and industrial lighting applications. Typical assemblies use Eaton xEnergy type-tested switchboard cells for a type-verified incoming distribution spine (xEnergy is engineered for system-level verification up to several kA bus ratings), NZM/NZMN moulded-case circuit breakers for incoming and main feeder protection, DIL contactors for group switching, and PKZ electronic motor protection where emergency or fan circuits require motor-protective functionality. Outgoing protection is typically provided by Eaton MCBs, RCBOs and RCCBs for final circuits; surge protection is implemented with Type 2 SPDs compliant with IEC 61643-11. Designed and verified to IEC 61439-1/2/3 requirements, the Eaton Lighting Distribution Board is engineered around defined forms of separation (Form 2, Form 3b and Form 4b commonly used for lighting boards to ensure circuit segregation and serviceability). Rated currents for the standard lighting board are specified up to 400 A in the incoming bus; outgoing configurations typically range from 12 to 72 ways. Short-circuit performance is driven by the selected incoming device: NZM/NZMN breakers and xEnergy cells enable practical short-circuit ratings from 10 kA up to 100 kA Icu depending on frame and trip unit selection; service short-time withstand (Icw) and conditional ratings (Ics) are sized per IEC 60947 and IEC 61439 verification reports in the assembly design. Key application features include segregated emergency lighting circuits with independent RCBO/RCCB protection and automatic feed changeover or UPS integration, DALI or KNX lighting-control bus integration for scene and energy control, and selective coordination strategies using Eaton electronic trip units and communication modules for upstream/downstream discrimination. IP ratings can be configured IP31 to IP42 for indoor distribution boards; powder-coated sheet-steel enclosures meet mechanical protection and earthing continuity requirements in IEC 61439. For installations in hazardous areas, modular segregation and component selection can be aligned with IEC 60079 series requirements and local Ex installation practices. The Eaton Lighting Distribution Board is suited for new-build and refurbishment projects where standardized, type-tested switchboard systems (xEnergy), high-performance molded-case breakers (NZM/NZMN), and robust final-circuit protection (MCB/RCBO/RCCB) are required under the IEC 61439 compliance framework.
