Schneider Electric Generator Control Panel
Schneider Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 generator control panel assemblies. Schneider Electric provides the Prisma Set type-tested switchboard system, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX breakers, TeSys contactors, and Linergy busbar systems for IEC 61439 panels.
The Schneider Electric Generator Control Panel is an IEC 61439-compliant generator switchboard solution that combines Schneider product families—Prisma Set type-tested switchboards, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX circuit-breakers, TeSys contactors, Linergy busbar systems, Sepam/Easergy protection relays and PowerLogic metering—into a coordinated genset control, protection and paralleling assembly. Panels are engineered to IEC 61439-1 and IEC 61439-2 requirements for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies and use IEC 60947-rated switching devices. Prisma Set provides design-verified assemblies to 4000 A with internal separation Forms 1 through 4b and IP ratings from IP31 to IP55, which simplifies type- and routine-test burden for generator applications. Typical generator panel architectures include a mains transfer/synchronizing cubicle, generator breaker cubicles using Masterpact MTZ (frame options cover high nominal currents; breaker breaking capacities vary by frame and trip unit), paralleling/synchronization cubicles with closed transition or soft-paralleling controls, load-sharing governor interfaces, protection cubicles with Sepam or Easergy multifunction relays for over/under voltage, over/under frequency, reverse-power and differential protection, and a metering/control cubicle with PowerLogic or ION meters. Linergy busbar and Prisma Set distribution trunks allow compact, segregated current paths that meet the short-circuit withstand (Icw) and making/breaking (Icu) coordination per IEC 61439 and IEC 60947. Schneider products are suitable for critical applications—data centers, hospitals, industrial plants, marine and offshore installations—where reliable automatic mains failure (AMF), closed/open transition synchronization, active power/load sharing and generator protection are required. For hazardous-area projects, control equipment layout and selection must comply with IEC 60079 and relevant ATEX/IECEx approvals; flameproof or increased-safety rated devices are used where appropriate. Design notes include coordinated short-circuit studies (RMS prospective fault currents), generator transient stability and breaker let-through energy (I²t), and thermal derating for ambient and enclosure IP class. Factory FATs, type tests per IEC 61439-1/2, and on-site commissioning (synchronization tuning, droop settings and protection relay settings) are standard deliverables when Schneider Electric components are integrated into IEC 61439 generator control panels.
