IEC 61439 Panels

Schneider Electric Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Panel

Schneider Electric components integrated into IEC 61439 automatic transfer switch (ats) panel assemblies. Schneider Electric provides the Prisma Set type-tested switchboard system, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX breakers, TeSys contactors, and Linergy busbar systems for IEC 61439 panels.

The Schneider Electric Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Panel is an IEC 61439-compliant transfer solution built around Schneider product families—Prisma Set type‑tested switchboards, Masterpact MTZ and Compact NSX circuit‑breakers, TeSys motor controllers/contactors and Linergy busbar distribution. Designed for critical power applications (data centres, hospitals, process plants, telecom and wastewater pumping), the assemblies are engineered for rated currents up to 4,000 A with selectable short‑circuit withstand and breaking capacities determined by the breaker family (Compact NSX for distribution branches, Masterpact MTZ for upstream power protection). Prisma Set provides a type‑tested chassis and enclosures with internal separation Forms 1 to 4b per IEC 61439‑1/2 and IP protection configurable from IP31 up to IP55 depending on enclosure and gland plate options. ATS functional options include motorized (mechanical changeover) and static (solid‑state/thyristor) transfer mechanisms, supporting open (break‑before‑make), closed (make‑before‑break) and programmed delayed transfers. Transfer and retransfer times are adjustable (typical 0.1–10 s for mechanical; near instantaneous for static/thyristor modules) with integrated source monitoring of voltage, frequency and phase sequence. Advanced controllers provide synchronism checks, load prioritization and shedding logic for staged restoral, and synchronising bypass for closed‑transition operation. Electrical protection and coordination are implemented in accordance with IEC 60947 series (switchgear and controlgear) and IEC 61439 documentation and verification rules. Internal arc classification and IAC ratings are validated against IEC 61439‑1/2 test regimes and can be supplied with internal arc protection barriers or arc‑protected compartments (AFLR, etc.) for installations requiring personnel and equipment protection. For hazardous environments, ATS panels can be engineered to IEC 60079 standards using certified Ex enclosures and suitably rated components. Typical short‑circuit ratings depend on breaker selection and busbar design; assemblies are routinely factory‑type tested using Prisma Set configurations to provide verified SCCR up to industry requirements (model dependent, commonly specified to 50–100 kA r.m.s. symmetrical). Linergy busbar systems simplify tap-offs and modular expansion while maintaining bus ampacity and limiting impedance for coordination with upstream Masterpact devices. Schneider Electric ATS panels are frequently selected where rapid, repeatable transfer, documented type testing and global certification are required. For comparison, equivalent system platforms such as SIVACON (Siemens) or MNS (ABB) occupy similar application spaces; Prisma Set is often chosen for its modular integration with Schneider breakers and control ecosystems.
