IEC 61439 Panels

Eaton Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Panel

Eaton components integrated into IEC 61439 automatic transfer switch (ats) panel assemblies. Eaton provides the xEnergy type-tested switchboard system, NZM/NZMN moulded-case breakers, DIL contactors, and PKZ motor protection devices for IEC 61439 assemblies.

The Eaton Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Panel is a factory-engineered IEC 61439-compliant assembly that integrates Eaton switchgear families—xEnergy type‑tested switchboards, NZM/NZMN moulded‑case circuit breakers, DIL contactors and PKZ motor‑protective devices—into engineered ATS solutions for reliable mains/generator/UPS changeover. Designed for rated currents up to 4 000 A in standard configurations (xEnergy systems scale to 6 300 A in type‑tested switchboard applications), Eaton ATS panels support two- and three‑source topologies with both motorized (mechanical drive) and static (solid‑state) transfer mechanisms. Typical transfer times range from 0.1–10 s and include adjustable make/break and retransfer delays, closed‑transition synchronization options, and configurable load‑prioritization and shedding logic suitable for data centers, hospitals, process plants and critical infrastructure. Compliance and component selection follow IEC 61439‑1/2 requirements for verification (type‑tested or design‑verified assemblies), with IEC 60947 series requirements applied to individual switching devices. Forms of separation (Form 1 through Form 4b) are implementable; ATS panels delivering safe serviceability and separation between functional units are commonly delivered as Form 3b or Form 4b to segregate source circuits, generator changeover mechanisms and control electronics. Short‑circuit withstand and making capacities are established per IEC 61439 and IEC 60947‑2; typical engineered assemblies deliver prospective fault withstand in the tens of kA (dependant on busbar sizing, bolted joints and NZM/NZMN frame selection) with short‑time Icw ratings specified for 1 s and peak Ipk/making capacities per breaker data sheets. Protection and monitoring functions include voltage, frequency and phase‑sequence supervision, under/over voltage, vector shift detection, synchronous close‑on‑transfer relays, and communications via Modbus/Profinet/IEC 61850 gateways where required. Eaton NZM breakers provide IEC 60947‑2 compliant breaking capacity with optional electronic trip units and communication modules; DIL contactors and PKZ motor protectors handle auxiliary and generator-engine starting circuits. For projects requiring alternative platform comparisons, Eaton ATS panels can be specified alongside other type‑tested systems such as Siemens SIVACON, ABB MNS and Schneider Prisma Set to evaluate mechanical layout, busbar ratings and front‑of‑cabinet access. Design considerations include ingress protection (IP31–IP54 typical), thermal rating and derating of busbars and breaker trip settings for continuous currents up to the assembly rating, and site acceptance testing: primary injection, functional transfer cycling, interlock verification and verification of short‑circuit withstand per IEC 61439‑1/2. For hazardous locations, integration with IEC 60079 certified components and enclosures is available. Patrion ([email protected]) engineers provide tailored Eaton ATS panel assemblies, factory FAT, and site commissioning to ensure IEC conformity and operational readiness for critical power distribution applications.
