Generator Control Panel for Marine & Offshore

IEC 61439 generator control panel assemblies engineered for marine & offshore applications. Classification-society-approved IEC 61439 panel assemblies for ships, offshore platforms, and marine installations meeting DNV, Lloyd's, and ABS requirements.

Generator Control Panel assemblies for Marine & Offshore installations are engineered low-voltage switchgear assemblies that combine IEC 61439 design and type-test requirements with the extra demands of classification societies and the marine environment. These panels deliver automatic mains-failure (AMF) detection, genset start/stop sequencing, synchronizing and paralleling, load sharing and power-management, and multi-stage protection using multifunction generator protection relays and PLC-based control. Typical hardware families used in integrated solutions include Siemens SIVACON and SIPROTEC for protection and synchronization, ABB MNS for modular switchboards, and Schneider Prisma/Prisma Set solutions for compact distribution — together with genset controllers from ComAp (InteliGen family), Deep Sea Electronics (DSE), or Woodward for governor/load sharing functions. Design and certification must address IEC 61439-1/-2 as the core standard for low-voltage switchgear assemblies and IEC 60947 series for switching devices, plus marine-specific standards such as IEC 60092 (shipboard installations), IEC 60533 (EMC for ships), and IEC 60079 where hazardous-area protection is required. Classification-society approvals (DNV, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas, ABS) typically require Type Approval or Certification of the assembly and may mandate additional environmental or vibration testing and documentation of electrical short‑circuit withstand and stability. Typical ratings and configurations: generator ratings from 50 kVA to 3,000 kVA are common, with busbar rated currents from 100 A up to 4,000 A and short‑circuit ratings (Icw/Ik) designed between 10 kA and 100 kA depending on system topology. Forms of separation per IEC 61439 (Form 1, 2, 2b, 3, 4a/4b/4c) are applied to segregate power and control, enabling live-work where required. Enclosure degrees typically range IP31–IP55 or higher; stainless-steel (AISI 316) or marine-grade coatings, conformal-coated PCBs, anti-vibration mounting, and reinforced cable gland arrangements are standard to resist salt spray, humidity, and mechanical vibration present on vessels and platforms. Controls and protection: Synchronizers, automatic voltage regulators (AVR), reverse-power, over/under voltage, over/under frequency, loss-of-excitation and thermal-overload protections are usually implemented via multifunction relays or integrated protection/control modules (e.g., SEPAM, RELION-class products). Load-sharing can be achieved via droop/isoc. control modes or advanced active-power management with PLC/SCADA integration and communications over Modbus TCP/RTU or IEC protocols. Factory testing and documentation: Type tests per IEC 61439 (temperature-rise, dielectric, short-circuit, mechanical, and IP) plus routine tests (busbar continuity, insulation, secondary injection for relay settings) are mandatory. For marine-specific delivery, documentation suites include class approval certificates, FAT/Witness test reports, vibration and shock test records, painting records, and sea-water corrosion protection details. Typical applications: ship main/auxiliary switchboards, emergency/essential distribution on FPSOs, platform accommodation modules, and integrated power systems for tugs, ferries, and offshore support vessels.
