Busbar Trunking System (BTS) for Industrial Manufacturing

IEC 61439 busbar trunking system (bts) assemblies engineered for industrial manufacturing applications. Heavy-duty IEC 61439 switchgear assemblies for factories, production lines, and manufacturing plants requiring motor control, power distribution, and process automation.

Busbar Trunking System (BTS) for Industrial Manufacturing

Busbar Trunking System (BTS) for Industrial Manufacturing applications are engineered prefabricated power-distribution assemblies built to IEC 61439-6 and integrated to the broader IEC 61439 family (61439-1 general rules, 61439-2 for power switchgear, and 61439-3 for distribution boards where applicable). Industrial plants place the most severe electrical and mechanical demands on BTS: high prospective short‑circuit currents (typical plant mains 50–100 kA or higher), continuous heavy motor loads, frequent tap‑offs for production cells, and requirement for fire-rated compartment crossings (E30–E120) and wash‑down/IP‑rated runs (IP52–IP68). Typical BTS products sit alongside mainstream LV switchgear platforms such as SIVACON, MNS and Prisma Set and are specified to match the main switchgear’s rated current, short‑circuit withstand (Icw / Ipk), and temperature-rise limits. Mechanical and electrical design choices include copper or aluminium sandwich and edge‑mount busbar configurations sized from 100 A up to 6,300 A continuous (InA 100–6300 A). Short‑circuit withstand ratings are verified by test or calculation to match site prospective fault levels; spring‑loaded silver‑plated contacts and precision mating faces minimize contact resistance and thermal hotspots. Modular elements (straight, elbow, tee, cross, riser) plus plug‑in tap‑off units (typically 16 A–400 A for modular tap‑offs; higher motor‑starter tap‑offs available) provide flexible routing and reconfiguration without hot‑work. Tap‑offs may be fitted with MCBs, MCCBs, contactors or integrated VFD/motor starters per IEC 60947 series requirements. Separation and safety are specified per IEC 61439-1 separation types (Type 1, 2, 3a/3b, 4a/4b) to isolate bus, service and functional units. Fire protection is implemented using tested fire‑rated sections, non‑flammable/halogen‑free insulators, and barrier seals for compartment boundaries. For hazardous area manufacturing (paint shops, solvent handling), BTS can be specified in compliance with IEC 60079 with appropriate explosion‑proof tap‑offs and gland arrangements. Environmental testing follows IEC 60068 while ingress protection is verified to IEC 60529. Monitoring and protection layers include integrated current and energy metering, temperature sensors at joints, leakage detection and arc‑fault detection systems to reduce arc‑flash risk. Thermal management (natural convection or forced ventilation) and ambient de‑rating are applied per manufacturer data and IEC 61439 temperature‑rise clauses. Factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site production testing include continuity, insulation, contact resistance, temperature‑rise verification and short‑circuit testing or calculation reports. In automotive, food processing, steel and heavy fabrication plants, a correctly specified BTS provides the flexibility, fault‑tolerance and maintenance simplicity required for modern automated manufacturing.
